Barton will play 8-man football in 2026, a move that will have an impact well beyond the Bears’ program as the high school football season gets underway across Arkansas.
The Barton School District announced it does not have enough senior high players to safely field an 11-man team this fall and is working to transition the Bears to an 8-man schedule.
For Barton, the move allows its players to continue competing rather than canceling the season.
For the rest of the 8-3A Conference, it creates an unexpected hole in the schedule.
