Charges Filed Against England Students Following Postgame Brawl
Charges have been filed against three England High School students following a postgame brawl that erupted after a 2A state tournament basketball game against Barton.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, two of the students face misdemeanor charges of second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. A third student has been charged with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and riot.
Authorities confirmed that two of the students have been taken into custody.
The incident occurred immediately after the final buzzer, when a fight broke out on the court involving players from both teams. Officials said the situation quickly escalated as individuals from the stands entered the playing area.
In the aftermath, seven England players and five Barton players were ejected from the contest.
Law enforcement officials said the investigation has been ongoing since the incident and that charges were filed more than a month after the altercation took place. Authorities indicated the investigation remains active and additional action could be possible.
