Shooting at North Little Rock Football Game Halts Benton-NLR Contest at Halftime
A Friday night football game between Benton High School and North Little Rock was cut short after a shooting incident in the bleachers forced officials to cancel the contest at halftime.
According to a statement from the Benton School District, one parent was struck by a bullet and transported to the hospital. Law enforcement officers remain on site and are managing the investigation.
District officials said all students and staff are safe. Players, cheerleaders, and band students were either released to their parents or placed on district buses for transport home.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured parent and their family,” the district said in its statement. “Counseling support will be available for students and staff in the coming days to help process this difficult event.”
Authorities have not released additional details about the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
